Sorry for Not Posting in a While

I've been kind of busy lately, you know, doing everything a typical person would do during summer. :) Even though this post is not completely about food, I still will post it.

How many of us are feeling stressed, tired, or down?
I'd like to admit that I am one of the people that are stressed and tired. Too much is coming up, and I really don't know how I will be able to confront so much. And so, to provide the perfect escape from our busy lives, we need a calm mix of food and scenery.

I suggest to most people to watch the sunset, because most of us aren't up a lot of times for the sunrise (even though I enjoy the sunrise the most). But of course, watching the sunset wouldn't be purely enough, obviously. Otherwise, how would this be a food blog?! XD So. Bring along your favorite beverage and a healthy snack to a good sitting place and watch the sunset (or perhaps sunrise? then that will call for good coffee!).

Personally, almond milk (recently released by the Silk Milk brand in Walmart) and blueberries do me tons of good and happiness. Maybe you might prefer coffee? Macaroons (too sweet for me XP)? Or muffins? One thing you might want to keep in mind: for a healthy, guaranteed boost of mood, make sure you aren't just consuming lots of sugar and caffeine to hype yourself up.

As for my favorite sitting place, my house's staircase is the perfect spot for me (big windows=big scenery). But maybe you'd like a meadow? An attic (too stuffy?)? By a lake?

Take heed, this is for relaxation, and therefore, don't make it complicated. Just bring along a favorite beverage you fixed yourself and go to the spot. Watch the miracles happen.
What if some of us are so busy, we don't even have time for that? Well, I say when you're standing outside on a sunny day, tip your head up and watch the clouds float by. Who doesn't enjoy going back to the old golden ages of childhood when we played the "Watch-and-Shape-the-Clouds" game?

Just an Update!

It's been a while since I've posted, and there is only one answer to that: FINALS. Well, as you can probably tell, I am nearly done with them, and have just finished the most excruciating of them all...

So I go after school to Barnes and Nobles to try to buy an American History textbook by Alan Brinkley, because my teacher mentioned the possibility of it being there. Note/hint/suggestion: Psst. They usually do not carry textbooks at Barnes and Nobles...

I come home and here I am, sitting in front of my computer, updating while eating the highlight of my post: puddings/creme brulee. For an afternoon snack, they are the utmost ideal of them all. Though you can try to make them (and I will include a recipe for the creme brulee in the recipe section), I suggest that you try buying packs of Japanese or Korean style pudding at Asian grocery stores and markets. They taste absolutely wonderful and aren't as fatty as the creme brulee would seem, and most of all, they come in terribly adorable shapes (or at least the one I bought did... It's much more appealing than your average circle.) Though a little bit expensive, these small delights do a good job of serving your anxious taste buds while managing the amount of calories and sugar that you consume.

Cakes and Pizza?

Today, I ventured to one of my best buddies' house to bake a wedding cake. Everything was going smoothly as I had hoped and expected, that is, till the decorating time came...

We slopped on the special cream, but the cream was just not staying on! It would get a bit liquid-y and start slipping off the edges. Decorations with icing on top of the cream would then fall off with the cream... So, my detective brain snapped open, as I ran through my mind what I did wrong.

I kept thinking, until my buddy's dad came with pizza for us. They were from pizza hut, and one was a supreme pizza with thin crust, the other pineapple and chicken with pan crust. I followed my instincts and ate the pineapple and chicken pizza, but I decided to give the supreme a shot. Tasting the pizza in my mouth, my taste buds discovered the new wonder of the exotic tastes of thin crust. Crunchy, but not too hard... Crispy, but not too crumbly... And the taste was simply too extravagant!

So afterward, I head home with the mystery still spinning in my head, unsolved. It was not till I was at my driveway that I realized my cake-fatal mistake: I had not let the cake cool enough. Usually, when cakes are to be decorated, especially with something not as hard as icing, they need to go through 2-3 hours in the fridge, which I had neglected. Case solved.

I will include the recipe of the special cream that I use, which is, much better than icing in my opinion. (It will be more appealing to those whom find icing too sweet.)

Frustration, Stress, then RELAXATION

This is a tight time of the year, with all of finals, exams, and such. I will not be able to post so much, but I will manage what I can muster. Fellow Fruitcake Baguette "blogees", let us fight this war of stress and frustration together! Let us endure... Meanwhile. I ought to get back to studies. T_T

Oh, since this is a FOOD blog, I'll mention that this weekend I'm going to be baking cakes! Good ones! My buddies will manage a Victorian lemon cake, and I... a classic strawberry jam cake! I apologize that it will not be a French baguette nor fruitcake. ;( But all is good. I will psot the recipe of the classic strawberry cake later soon.

The Beginning of a Beginning

As my great drum major in band has said, "This is the beginning of a beginning... and there will be a beginning of a middle... a beginning of an end... and an end of an end..."

So my blog will try to focus much on humor, some aspects of my life, and most of all... FOOD!!!
Lucky for you readers, I venture to Shanghai, China this summer... That means... MORE AND MORE AND MORE about FOOD! All you lovelies might have to wait until June though... :( Still have many events coming up too...

But feel free to give any requests of anything you want me to write about! :D I love reading comments, reviews, etc.
